Freth's Speedgrinding Guide

Overview

The best way to maximize your skill gain is to ensure you're using the following:

  • High quality tools (not the starter tools)
  • Enchantments on your tools
  • Runes on your tools
  • Sleep bonus
  • Unfermented moonshine
  • Rarity

Quality

Quality affects speed and success rate. The faster you can do an action the more actions you can do in a shorter period of time. You only gain skill on success, so increasing your chances of success is important.

Note that speed is hard capped at 1.5 seconds on Mythmoor.

Enchantments

Speed and skill gain enchantments go a long way toward helping you skill up.

  • Blessings of the Dark - Blessings of the dark increases both skill gain and action speed when using a tool enchanted with it. This functions as a combination of Circle of cunning and Wind of ages; for example, a 50 power cast of this spell has the same effect as a 50 cast of both Circle of cunning and Wind of ages.
  • Efficiency - Reduces difficulty of skill checks with the item. Stacks with BOTD, COC/WOA and Titanforged. Useful for making high level improving easier. 10 minute cooldown on Mythmoor.
  • Titanforged - Increases speed, efficiency, and skill gain. Stacks with BOTD, COC/WOA and Efficiency (additive).

Tip: If you are skilling up an alt, trade your best enchanted tools to your alt for fast skill gain.

Runes

Apply a skill or speed rune to your tool.

  • Rune materials are acquired in the PVP zone on Northlands, which is located in the middle of the map. Upon a creature's death there is a 1 in 100 chance of a rift pillar appearing. See Acquiring Materials for more information on getting rune materials.
  • Runes stack with enchants!
  • See the skill runes.

Keep in mind the speed cap of 1.5 on Mythmoor.

Rarity

Rarity gives an additional speed bonus to your tools:

Rarity Speed Bonus
Rare 0.1 seconds faster
Supreme 0.2 seconds faster
Fantastic 0.3 seconds faster

Keep in mind the speed cap of 1.5 on Mythmoor.

Sleep Bonus

Sleep bonus is stored time, up to three hours. This stored time can be toggled on to give you skill gain affinity in most skills. When you activate sleep bonus the time counts down until it runs out.

  • Sleep bonus accrues when you sleep in a bed in a building to log off.
  • Sleep powder, when eaten, gives you 1 hour of sleep bonus.
  • You can have a max of 3 hours of sleep bonus.
  • Sleep bonus can be toggled on/off using the Zzz button or the /fsleep command.
  • You can toggle the sleep bonus bar in your bar display (note, this does not toggle sleep bonus, only the bar being displayed or not). Right clicking the bar display, Toggle SB.
  • When the sleep bonus bar is white it is active, when it is charcoal color it is inactive.

Unfermented Moonshine

Like sleep bonus, foods and beverages can give you a skill gain timer, but for one particular skill at a time, based on the recipe made by the crafter. While you can get decent timers with food recipes, the longest timers are achieved with unfermented moonshine.

  • When you drink moonshine the affinity timer starts. When the timer expires the affinity is no longer active. The affinity acts like a toggle, either on (active, counting down) or off (expired, no time left).
  • You can get over 2 days of affinity in a skill with high quality moonshine, however, most players only grind a few hours at a time. It is more efficient to drink the moonshine from a reed pen for 2 hour doses.

Tip: Always drink water first before drinking the moonshine as you would be quenching thirst first.

Current players selling unfermented moonshine:

  • Manytox
  • Freth (Note, I do not advertise it. See this page for more info.)
