Channeling

The Channeling skill is what determines how consistently high your spell cast power is. Alignment and spell difficulty are also factors. Channeling is one of the hardest skills to grind.

Also see Faith Bonuses and Rarity Window/Enchantment Bonus and Spells.

Cast Power

Cast Determination
0 or above Successful cast on item: apply cast
below 0 Unsuccessful cast on item: see below

Unsuccessful Cast

If the cast is unsuccessful it is a negative cast power, so it is flipped to positive (made absolute) and evaluated with the quality of the item being cast upon to make a determination.

Cast Determination
Absolute of failed cast below 1/3 of quality of item Nothing happens
Absolute of failed cast between 1/3 of quality of item and quality of item Item takes damage
Absolute of failed cast higher than quality of item Item shatters

Practices for Success

  • Skill up in channeling for more consistent and higher casts. See below.
  • Maximize your settlement bonuses. See Rarity Window/Enchantment Bonus
  • Apply an improve rune to the item before improving it to get a higher quality. Improve the item to high quality before trying to enchant it.
  • Apply an enchant rune to the item before trying to enchant it to reduce chances even further. Keep in mind that one chant replaces another. Only apply the enchant rune once you're done improving it.

Metal Properties

Certain metals have shatter resistant properties. This is in addition to a rune. I've included damage and decay rates.

Metal Shatter Resistance Damage From Use Decay Rate
Seryll 100% (will not shatter) -50% -50%
Glimmersteel 25% -40% -40%
Gold 20% 20% -60%
Adamantine 15% -60% -60%
Electrum 15% -10% -20%
Silver 10% 2.50% -30%

Grinding

Set a bind to cast one of the following low favor using spells.

  • Light token - Creates a light token; a light source
  • Morning Fog - Protects you from thorns; amount of protection is based on the cast

Even if you run out of favor you can still cast every 3-5 seconds as you get a tick of favor recovery.

Tip: You can combine the channeling grind with another skill that has you sacrificing (thereby restoring favor anyway) and skill up in more than one skill at once.

Notes

Only Enchants for tools, weapons and armor have the chance to shatter. You can cast Expand and Replenish without fear of shattering an item, but they have cooldowns.
