Morinaka's Skill Guide
NOTE: The majority of this is Morinaka's work. I added my own notes in a couple places (noted as such) and sorted the crops table by skill. The original doc can be found here.
General Tips
Statuettes
On Mythmoor quality and rarity matter due to server mods. Each level of rarity is equivalent to adding 30ql to your statuette. So if you have a 90ql one, you’re better off making it rare than using lots of high ql lumps for minimal gains.
Blessings Of The Dark (BOTD)
It helps on most tools and some materials to decrease how much time it takes to skill up and perform actions.
Titanforged (TF)
Stacks with BOTD/CoC. A hard cast, 100 TF equivalent to 50% of BOTD 100.
Sleep
/fsleep to activate and deactivate, doubles exp gained. Doesn’t work on some skills. Affinities: These add +10% to skill gains, some players sell affinity moonshines to help with this. Path of Knowledge: Level 11 on this meditation path gives +25% to all skill gains except faith and fighting skill. This is boring to grind (8-10 hours) for but will save a lot of time for later grinds. Sacrificing items in your deities altar a.k.a saccing, is a quick way to dispose of items, rather than the slow decay of a trash bin. So when you see a tip telling you sac something, it is just a means to destroy the items to free up inventory space.
Combat Related
Shield Bashing
Regularly shield bash any time it's available while fighting.
Taunting
Have an alt or a friend fight a mob while you taunt the mob off of them and they do the same and go back and forth.
Fighting Skills
01-20 FS: Training Dummy 20-30 FS: Passive Animals, Spiders 30-60 FS: Crocodiles, Scorpions, Seals, Gorillas, Lava Spiders 60-70 FS: Trolls, Rift Mobs, Champs, Lava Spiders 70-99 FS: Champs, Rift Mobs, Ogres, Lava Spiders, Greenish mobs (half xp of champs) 85-99 FS: Warmasters, Champs (make pendulum with lurker of the woods for finding champs)
Note: While sleep bonus does not boost Fighting skill gains, all other skills related to it like normal fighting, your weapon skills, etc. are boosted, so it’s not pointless to use sleep bonus while out fighting.
Armour Smithing
Plate Smithing: Set up a forge with cauldrons to put loads of iron in for heating (expanded forges can fit a lot in) and craft small pauldrons. Sacc them or smelt. Chain Armour Smithing: Mass craft iron chains and make gloves then sacrifice or smelt down. Shield Smithing: Craft small shields then smelt or sacrifice
Weaponsmithing
Weaponheads Smithing
Make Hunting Arrow Heads, put in BSB.
Blades Smithing
Carving Knife Heads, sac them.
Archery/Bows
Up to 30: Use regular or arrow shafts on an archery target. Over 30: Shoot bison with regular or arrow shafts. NOTE: Regular shafts and a longbow don’t aggro mobs or harm them.
Bowery
Craft short bows and sacc when inventory is full.
Fletching
Activate carving knife to turn shafts into arrow shafts and store in a bsb.
Crafting/Smithing
Alchemy/Natural Substances
Method 1: Grow lots (thousands) of garlic and gather fat from animals (cows and horses are good for this) and make farmers salve. Then sacrifice. This only uses 0.05kg of fat per salve and is far quicker than making healing covers with the garlic. Enchant the fat if you really want to boost.
Method 2: Gather Ash and make barrels of lye with water. Pour lye on the ground, or if you have mortar to spare, combine with the lye and make concrete and store in a bsb.
Blacksmithing
Craft small nails and store in BSB.
Carpentry
Using a carving knife on a log to make shafts and store in a bsb. Then turn the shafts into pegs and store in bsb.
Cloth Tailoring/Tailoring
Use Spindle to turn cotton into string, then BSB it.
Coal Making
Method 1: Make 100 charcoal piles at the site of where you plan on putting, then add the dirt needed for the piles. Store in a wagon and then start laying them out 1 per tile. Add the logs then light and wait roughly 6 days for charcoal. NOTE: Having 100+ burning piles causes a huge frame rate drop, so don’t set this up near you or someone else's deed.
Method 2: This requires a false altar of three/false bone altar or high Expand enchanted altar. Mass craft 100 or so unfinished charcoal piles, add the logs to each pile and then sacrifice the piles. NOTE: This is just Method 1 but you sac the piles instead of finishing them; useful if you got a lot of spare logs or don’t want the framerate/lag issues of 100+ burning piles.
Fine Carpentry
Method 1) Craft 10 or 20 barrels and improve them the highest your skill can go. After hitting roughly your skill lvl in ql you put the barrels in a forge and take them out when they are roughly <5 ql and start again. This doesn’t take long, keep an eye on the barrels or they are toast.
Method 2) The same as barrels but using rope tools instead, uses less wood.
Method 3) Make loads of shafts, then use a carving knife to spam wood reel and sac them. You can make 6 reels per shaft.
Firemaking
Make campfires while in shallow water, they instantly vanish, enchant your steel and flint.
Jewelry Smithing
Craft iron eyelets (only need 0.003kg per eyelet) using a small anvil. Sacrifice.
Leatherworking
Gather ash in bulk to make lye to turn hide into leather. Use the leather to make leather strips with scissors.
Locksmithing
Craft small padlocks using an anvil, sacrifice. Once you have enough skill, make lock picks (uses less material) and sacrifice.
Masonry
Method 1: Craft mortar using sand and clay. This one is good for new players, only need a shovel for digging the raw materials.
Method 2: Craft bricks of stone, sandstone, marble or slate.
Method 3: Mass craft and sacrifice whetstones.
Metallurgy
Method 1: With cauldrons in a forge, heat up copper and craft bronze or brass with tin or zinc.
Method 2: Craft steel with charcoal and iron. Enchant iron and coal with BOTD for faster gains, when you combine coal and iron stacks keep the BOTD lump active when combining.
Papyrusmaking
Method 1: Make lots of wood pulp (wood scrap + water), and use a press to make paper sheets and store in a BSB.
Method 2: Farm and harvest reed fibre, then press to make papyrus sheets and store in a bsb. Reed only grows in shallow waters, or in planters mod planters.
Paving
Craft blind catseyes (then catseyes if you have eyes), then BSB them.
Pottery
Craft clay flasks (hand + clay) and sacrifice.
Repairing
Make piles of repairable items off deed and every day or so repair the stack.
Ropemaking
Using a rope tool and wemp make bowstrings and store in a bsb.
Shipbuilding
Craft tenons and store in a bsb.
Thatching
Craft thatch using reed or mixed grass and store in a BSB.
Toymaking
Make unfinished puppets (needle+string) and sacrifice.
Characteristics
Body Strength
Make kindling with a hatchet and log or carving knife and wood scrap.
Body Control
Make arrow shafts from shafts or bows from logs with a carving knife.
Mind Logic
Refer to Carpentry. Freth: The fastest way to get to 20.1 mind logic is to make planks out of logs with a saw. You’ll need approximately 55 logs and it’ll take about 2 hours and approximately 350 actions. Be sure to repair your saw as needed during the process. You can also bypass the grind by subscribing to the server, which gives you 100 mind logic.
Religion
Channeling
(90+ Faith recommended)
Sacrifice your deities preferred sacc item (any chopped veg works for any god on mythmoor) for favour and cast morning fog. Should be noted any time you're doing something and notice you have full favor can cast morning fog until you are out of favor.
Exorcism
Have an alt make low ql (10ql) altars of a different faith and desecrate the altars.
Meditation
Meditate on a rug to level 20, join a path so you can level more, then meditate. This is slow to level, use of a high CoC exquisite rug, sleep bonus and/or affinity foods is strongly recommended.
Praying/Faith
Pray at an altar for your deity. Note: Sleep bonus does not increase faith gains. Once you hit 99.5+ faith do preaching every 3 hours with at least 4 other players (or alts), for 0.02 faith per person in attendance.
Nature/Cooking
Animal Husbandry
Method 1: Grooming animals in pens every hour with a grooming brush and shearing sheep with scissors.
Method 2: Put a small amount of honey in a pottery jar, use this on animals to collect flies.
Animal Taming
Pen of animals taming with crop seeds.
Archeology/Restoration
Using a trowel gather satchels of unidentified shards with a chisel and metal brush using sleep bonus every time you identify shards. For artifacts you will have to do it on abandoned deeds.
Baking/Milling
Grind corn to make cornflour (store in FSB), then add water to the flour to make dough and store in FSB.
Beverages
Use a fruit press on corn, cotton seeds or fruits in a bucket.
Botanizing
Take roughly 20 satchels with you and go out to steppe or grass and botanize everything til you hit 20. Then set a bind to botanize resources and keep any useful items in satchels and drop rest when inventory is full. Steppe gives more woad. Grass gives more acorns.
Butchering
Kill everything you can, butcher with a butchering knife.
Milking/Dairy Food Making
Milk cows, buffalo and sheep in a pen, and then use an enchanted bucket to milk the animals. Activate a fork to make butter. Butter can be stored in a larder. Or make cheese with a cheese drill, store in an FSB.
Farming
Layout a fenced area that you can farm everyday. No more than 1000 tiles.
Freth: Sorted the table by skill level.
| Crop | Difficulty |
|---|---|
| Potato | 4 |
| Cotton | 7 |
| Rye | 10 |
| Wemp | 10 |
| Cucumber | 15 |
| Oat | 15 |
| Pumpkin | 15 |
| Barley | 20 |
| Reed | 20 |
| Carrot | 25 |
| Wheat | 30 |
| Cabbage | 35 |
| Corn | 40 |
| Tomato | 45 |
| Lettuce | 55 |
| Onion | 60 |
| Strawberry | 60 |
| Pea pod | 65 |
| Garlic | 70 |
| Rice | 80 |
| Sugar beet | 85 |
If you don’t meet the difficulty for the crop you will not gain exp. To maximize farming exp tend every stage using a rake every 6-8 hours.
Healing/First aid
Jump off a floor high enough to get wounds and then use cotton to heal the wound and repeat.
Foraging
Bring 20 satchels and forage until full and keep any cocoa beans or other preferred cooking items in satchels.
Forestry
Prune and pick sprouts from trees/bushes with a sickle.
Gardening
Use a sickle to trim grass then store in a BSB. Mixed grass is used for timber frame buildings, thatched roofs and making steppe tiles.
Hot Food Cooking
Method 1: Make fried meat or vegetables in frying pans. Setup for this: get an FSB filled with your meat or veg and two ovens within reach. Fill one oven with 20 or more frying pans (any ql), and in the other oven 4 cauldrons (more if you have expanded ovens). Fill the cauldrons with veggies or meat and wait for them to get hot, this means they will fry very quickly once added to the frying pans in the other oven, since they are hot already. Once hot, put one veggie (or meat) in each frying pan, wait for them to become fried, then remove from the pan and sacrifice.
NOTE: This is very tedious, as you have to constantly load and unload pans of meat or veg, Method 2 allows you to avoid this somewhat.
Method 2 (Mythmoor Only): Make large meals from 1 meat + as many tomatoes that fit in a frying pan, then mass craft Julbords and add the meals. Adding meals to 100 julbords should get you into the 70s with sleep bonus. A frying pan with Expand 78+ on it can hold 1 meat + 99 tomatoes which makes huge 50KG meals.
Prospecting
Use a pick to prospect stone walls/ore veins. Level 90 is all you need.
Puppeteering
Set a timer to use a puppet to do a puppet show every 15 mins.
Tracking
Hover any tile and track.
Woodcutting
Chop down trees, make logs or turn woodscrap into kindling.
