Salt
Overview
Salt is used in cooking to add complexity to a recipe which in turn adds time to the affinity timer of the resulting food or drink.
While salt is a common ingredient in recipes, it is most often used in an intermediate step to cook flavor into ingredients to be added to a recipe.
Acquisition
Salt can be acquired by two main methods.
Mining
Salt veins can be found in mines. A salt vein will give you 40-50 rock salt. Use a grinding stone to grind rock salt into salt.
You can also receive rock salt sporadically from rock and ore tiles.
Mining for salt is low production and is not sufficient to meet the needs of regular cooking, especially when cooking recipes for affinities.
Salt Water
You can boil salt water to produce salt. As long as the water is salty it will work.
Water from storage containers will yield mostly low quality salt. Fill your cooking container directly from the ocean to produce the best quality salt.
You can expand your cauldrons to hold more water and make more salt. There is a curve though. Only the higher casts will give you a significantly higher number of salt per batch.
More water capacity also means the cauldrons will be heavier to carry. It may be more feasible for a player with low body strength to not expand and use more cauldrons instead.
