 ====== Altars, Statuettes and Deity Worship ====== ====== Altars, Statuettes and Deity Worship ======

-===== Foreword by Freth =====+===== A Note From Freth =====

-I'm a Christian.  For a long time I struggled with deity worship in Wurm Unlimited, because it's idolatry.  I even left Mythmoor because of my beliefs, and gave up my GM status.  I returned after a year or so, but my convictions haven't changed.  I sought to find ways that I could enjoy the game and adhere to my principles.+I'm a Christian.

-As you can imagine, it's not an easy thing.  I'm still working to do better, and to find balance Here's where I'm at with it.+If you are unfamiliar with Christian beliefsthe first two commandments warn against having other gods and practicing idolatry ([[https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=exodus+20%3A1-6&version=KJV|Exodus 20:1-6]]).

-* I do not create altars.
-* I do not pray to altars.
-* The only altar I own is at Perry.  A bunny altar that was a gift from my citizens.
-* I do not and will not have temples on my settlements.
-* I have helped players get set up with their deity and statuette, but even this goes against my beliefs, so I'm writing this wiki page to make a change for the better, and break ties with this aspect of the game.
-
-In closing, it's not my place to tell you what to do.  I know my own convictions and that I personally will not participate in this aspect of the game anymore.  You can make your own choice.
-
-You //can// heal yourself without spells, using cotton, farmer's salve and healing covers in combination with enchanted tiles, but there are certain aspects of the game that can only be achieved through spells.  I've had to compromise to be able to do certain things in the game.  I'm not happy with it, but it's my own personal struggle.
-
-===== How To =====
-
-1. Read the [[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Xcvmn8rd6-QYDaWJvV4w4NbHP5tGZBvox2CaeSjkTVQ/edit?usp=sharing|Guide to Mythmoor]] to decide what deity you want to go with.  There are no priest restrictions.  All deities get the same spells.  Only the bonuses and sacrifice items differ.
-
-2. Go to the light or dark altar as per your choice.
-
-* Light: Moor's Rest coordinates 2883,2546
-* Dark: Moor's Rest coordinates 2881,2577
-
-3. Pray until 30.0 faith.
-
-4. Become a priest at the altar.  The spell bar shows up one prayer after becoming a priest.
-
-5. Pray to your desired faith.  Your favor (spell power) will match your faith.
-
-6. Make the appropriate statuette as per the spreadsheet.  Requires jewelry smithing skill.  Use the statuette to cast spells.

 ===== Altar Placement ===== ===== Altar Placement =====

-You may find that Giai has placed Persephanie altars around on our mutual properties.  She is a co-creator, co-mayor and friend, which means she has that power to make the decision to place an altar where she wishes.  I would however ask that citizens place their altars inside their homes, so as to keep clutter to a minimum.+If you must have an altar, the best place is in your own home.  This is where I would prefer that you keep them.  You may notice that there are some strewn around here and there.  These are from before I made this ruleor are owned by my co-mayor Giai.
